I hate Facebook. There. I said it. And it feels damned good. Every time I open Facebook, I feel sick in the pit of my stomach. I get stressed. I feel battered and bruised after cruising through my newsfeed. That is no way to spend my time. I don’t get the same effect with these other sites.
Which is the best Silicon Valley alternative?
Parler is a microblogging service that is both a website and an app. The name was originally intended to be pronounced as in French (/pɑːrleɪ/, PAR-lay), but is often pronounced like the English word “parlor” (/pɑːrlər/, PAR-ler). It is available on both the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.
Dan Bongino publicly announced in 2020 that he had purchased an “ownership stake” of unspecified value.
On June 24, 2020, the Wall Street Journal reported that the Trump campaign was looking for alternatives to social media networks that had restricted their posts and advertising and that Parler was being considered. Texas Senator Ted Cruz published a YouTube video on June 25 in which he denounced other social media platforms for “flagrantly silencing those with whom they disagree” and announced that he was “proud to join Parler.” Other prominent Republican and conservative figures also joined in June, including Ohio Representative Jim Jordan, New York Representative Elise Stefanik, and former U.N. ambassador Nikki Haley.
It has a little ways to go to catch up to the quality of minds and gab, that being said we don’t know which of these platforms has staying power so I would download it for a look-see. The biggest disappointment for me is the account recovery the only option is SMS Authentication, which is horrible if you live outside the states or travel internationally a lot.
I just started using the Parlet App and it’s close or slightly better than Gab App.
Minds is a free and open-source distributed social networking service that uses the blockchain to reward the community with ERC20(Ethereum is the second-largest cryptocurrency platform by market capitalization, behind Bitcoin.) tokens. Users can use their tokens to promote their content or to crowdfund other users through monthly subscriptions to their exclusive content and services. The price of one-thousand views is the price of one token on the network.
Minds describe itself as a “Crypto Social Network” that upholds internet freedom.
Minds has become popular for its commitment to privacy, decentralization, optional anonymity, radical transparency, free speech, and user rewards in contrast to the surveillance, secrecy, censorship, and algorithm manipulation it alleges occurs on many proprietary social networks.
Gab was launched on August 15, 2016, in private beta, billing itself as a “free speech” alternative to social networking sites Twitter and Facebook. Co-founder and CEO Andrew Torba has cited “the entirely left-leaning Big Social monopoly” and alleged bias against conservative articles by Facebook as his reasons for creating the site. Gab AI, Inc. was incorporated on September 6, 2016.
Torba said in November 2016 that the site’s user base had expanded significantly following censorship controversies involving major social media companies, including the permanent suspensions of several prominent accounts from Twitter.
But wait, there’s much much more…
In February 2019, Gab launched Dissenter, a browser extension and website that allows Gab users to make comments on content hosted on any website via an overlay visible only to those logged into or using the extension, and thus bypass their individual moderation practices. This is very cool and I use it quite a bit.
Gab also has all your favorite conservative news sites in one spot
Gab TV the alternative to Youtube coming soon
If I was a betting man and I’m, I would put my money on Gab to be the one site sticking around. It would be cool if Minds and Gab could team up together. It’s a David vs Goliath story, well more like 1000 Goliaths(Silicon Vally). If you are Conservative or even centrist join one or more of these sites and try to wean yourself off of Facebook and tell all your friends and family to join.
- Gab right now is 1st
- Parler is a close 2nd
What about Minds? Patrick Byrne is on the board of Minds, Patrick is a blockchain technology junky and is incorporating that technology into overstock.com. Overstock.com disclosed in a Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filing this week that the holder of a warrant had exercised its right to buy $100 million worth of shares. Although the filing did not identify this investor, Byrne told CoinDesk it was the Quantum Fund, managed by billionaire George Soros(Godfather of the left) That being said Minds is a distant 3rd.
